Mother never realized. The words she said so casually would be remembered for years. Mother never realized. She was commenting on a body, while her daughter was hearing a judgment of her worth. Mother never realized. Those words about being too big or not thin enough would eventually grow into insecurity, into the fear of being rejected, into the fear of not being loved. Later, many people told her that she was enough, that she was beautiful, that there was nothing wrong with her. But some words are heard before we grow up, and those are the hardest to forget. The first person who makes you question yourself is often the same person who first teaches you what love is.
