山 〔Shān〕 Mountain

Zac Xiao畢業於中原建築系並在英國曼徹斯特大學完成建築與都市碩士，目前仍是一位在台灣執業的建築師。小學時期於彰化鄉下初識書法，感受到水墨的趣味，直到北上就業，工作之餘向李蕭錕書法家學習，啟發了對書墨更開闊的思維，不再侷限於文字的書寫。在曼徹斯特的一次聯展中，深深地體會到，在不識中文的外國人眼中，只能從圖案去感受創作者的意念，筆順及構成似失去了絕對規則性，可以拆解後重組，賦予它新的生命。 「捨本築墨」首個展的概念原點也於此同時萌生。 「捨」去對事物原「本」的預想，重新以空間構「築」水「墨」。 對他來說世間萬物的所有枝微末節，其實可能都蘊含其深刻的意義，細細斟酌甚至可能翻轉整個概念。作品的創作精神亦以此為軸，以新的思路重新展開。傳統中文書寫本具有其空間虛實，傳達出其獨特美感；然而當筆畫重新組構，墨白重新分配，輕重重新調劑，文字將跳脫框架，傳達新的意念，即捨本•築墨。此首個展成功的經驗獲得了廣大的關注，也開始受邀松山菸場ArtfN藝術博覽會辦展、夜台北國際藝術博覽會聯展、神隱村展售中心邀展、異鏡藝術畫廊聯展……等，以及各種跨界的合作，如與Yunivers Hsieh 聯名的共生藝術手繪腕錶2.0，及各種客製藝術品邀約。也藉此逐步開拓藝術創作的各種可能性，在空間構築與水墨流動之間，持續尋找彼此連通的渠道。 Zac Xiao is a practicing architect based in Taiwan who graduated from the architecture department of Chung Yuan Christian University and completed his Master's in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Manchester in the UK. Although he first encountered calligraphy during his primary school years in rural Changhua, it wasn't until he moved to Taipei and studied under calligraphy master Li Xiao-kun that he began to expand his understanding of ink and brush beyond the limits of text. During a joint exhibition in Manchester, Zac realized that non-Chinese speakers could only perceive the artist's intention through the patterns, stroke order, and composition of the work. This insight became the seed for his first solo exhibition, "Shaking Off Tradition to Build with Ink," which eschews preconceived notions of materials and instead uses ink to construct spatial representations. For Zac, every tiny detail in the world holds profound meaning, and careful consideration of these details can potentially flip an entire concept on its head. The creative spirit of his work revolves around this concept, which allows him to approach his art from new perspectives. Traditional Chinese calligraphy has its own unique spatial beauty, but when strokes are reorganized, ink and white space are redistributed, and weight is adjusted, the resulting text breaks out of its frame and conveys new meaning. This idea of "Shaking Off Tradition to Build with Ink" has garnered widespread attention and invitations to exhibit at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park Art Fair, Night Taipei International Art Exhibition, Hidden Village Exhibition and Sales Center, and Yijin Art Gallery, among others. Zac has also collaborated with Yunivers Hsieh to create the Symbiotic Art Hand-Painted Watch 2.0 and various other custom artworks.
