Artist Introduction

Wan Lin Chang is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the fluid connections between text, memory, identity, urban landscapes, and nature. A graduate of Chelsea College of Arts at the University of the Arts London with a MA degree in Interior and Spatial Design, she also pursued Design Book Structure at the London College of Communication. Her works embrace minimalism, spanning painting, installation, sculpture, and multimedia, drawing inspiration from everyday life. Chang transforms the evolution of spaces and fragmented memories into poetic artistic expressions.

Her art focuses on deconstructing and reconstructing materials, with a recurring theme of linking shared elements. In the series Invisible Cities, inspired by Italo Calvino’s literary work, she interprets the concept of the number "three" and its multiples through cuts and sculptural forms. The Mediation involves capturing natural textures through walking, unveiling images that engage in dialogue with Eastern and Western art histories. Current employs the warp and weft of textiles to stitch together a sequence of landscapes. Her ongoing project, Me and the Leftovers, reimagines leftover clay to build sculptures, addressing issues of material reuse and expressive potential—key concerns in her recent practice.

As an artist with both experimental and conceptual dimensions, Chang has exhibited her work internationally, reflecting a deep exploration of the intersections between space, memory, and time. Her art invites audiences to reconsider the boundaries between reality and imagination through a connection of individual and collective experiences.
