Some people are afraid of failure. She is afraid of being praised. All her life, she has worked hard—hard to be the best, hard to become someone others would see as capable and accomplished. Yet whenever recognition comes close, she instinctively takes a step back. Because she is too familiar with another voice. A voice that told her, “It’s okay.” “Not bad.” “But not enough.” “There will always be someone better than you.” So she learned how to chase achievement, but never how to receive applause. She learned how to demand more from herself, but never how to appreciate herself. It was never that she wasn’t good enough. She simply never believed she was someone who could be admired. This photograph is not about humility. It is about the inheritance her father left behind.
